MBTA- REDUNDANT ELEVATORS
Boston, Massachusetts
C&C Consulting Engineers is currently performing a survey of portions of six subway stations in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. The stations involved are Park Street, Porter Square, Harvard Square, Downtown Crossing, State Street and Symphony Hall. The survey will be used for the design of additional elevators, required to comply with a court order to improve handicapped accessibility.
At each station, a closed traverse has been established to
second order, class1 standards to establish accurate horizontal and vertical
reference points on each level. The traverse was closed on known benchmarks in
the vicinity of each station. Once the traverse was checked and balanced, detail
surveys were conducted on each level. Work is being plotted using AutoCAD
software, and color-keyed plans are being produced to distinguish the different
levels when viewed on one drawing sheet. The plans include a grid to establish
bearings and distances accurately from level to level. Additional
laser-supported survey was also conducted in the immediate area of each proposed
elevator to assure the level of detail and accuracy required for this vertical
transportation construction project.
